Over the MLK weekend AVPA Theatre students attended the annual CETA festival at Fullerton Union HS in Fullerton, CA. CETA stands for California Educator’s Theatre Association. At the three-day festival, students were able to see Main Stage plays from schools selected from all over Southern California, including Los Angeles, Orange County, the Inland Empire, and San Diego County.
In between shows on Saturday, students had the opportunity to develop their skills by participating in 3 sessions of workshops led by professionals in the industry that encouraged artistic growth for high school students and their teachers. There were many exciting workshops to choose from, such as creating a solo show, hand to hand stage combat, stage management, design basics, the business of acting, musical theatre auditions, scene study, the fundamentals of directing, and going to college for theatre-where do I start?
This year at the CETA Festival, 14 of our AVPA Theatre students were honored with Certificates of Merit for their work on Almost, Maine. Those students are:
Carly Shiever (Rhonda)
Evan Wasser (Dave)
Gabe Lobet (Randy)
Ben Hilsberg (Chad)
Erin Hamill (Marvalyn)
Owen Jones (Steve)

Dillon Zehnder (Phil)
Joey O'Neal (East)
Isa Berliner (Glory)
Henry Rehor (Jimmy)

CETA is an amazing opportunity for theatre students to nurture their talent among their peers from all over California, in a creative environment of working professionals dedicated to theatre arts education.
