Free Event
Industry panel & student performances to follow!
Celebrate and support music education in public schools at a FREE screening of the Academy Award-Winning documentary short, The Last Repair Shop. Once commonplace in the United States, today Los Angeles is by far the largest and one of the last American cities to provide free and freely repaired musical instruments to its public schoolchildren. From directing duo Ben Proudfoot and Kris Bowers, The Last Repair Shop grants an all-access pass to the nondescript downtown warehouse where a dwindling handful of devoted craftspeople keep student instruments in good repair.
Join the Culver City Unified School District (CCUSD), Culver City Education Foundation (CCEF), and the Culver City High School Academy of Visual & Performing Arts (AVPA) on Thursday, September 26th at the Robert Frost Auditorium for a reception, screening of the film, student performances, and an engaging conversation on how we must all continue to support CCUSD’s own nationally-recognized music education program.
Please respect the neighbors of the Frost and do not park in the immediate surrounding neighborhoods.

Java Gala
JAVA GALA 16 - Choose Your Own AVPA Adventure
Saturday, June 1, 2-5pm
Robert Frost Auditorium
AVPA presents Java Gala 16 - Choose Your Own AVPA Adventure - on Saturday, June 1. The format brings a brand new performance experience to our audience. Beginning at 2pm, patrons can explore and choose their options of performances and presentations from all our AVPA schools that take place across the CCHS campus.
Follow our “Mad Hatter” student tour guides who will help you explore, interact, and observe our students in action.
How it’ll work:
From 2pm to 3pm, patrons can explore the various exhibitions and performances throughout the Culver High campus, following a path that will lead to choosing your own AVPA Adventure. Check out a live film shoot in a hallway, enjoy live music in the parking lot, see dance and theatre perform inside and outside the rooms they learn and rehearse in. The Music Studio will have Music Tech students working on recording projects and demonstrating their work. And stop by the student garden for a little AVPA tea party.
At 3pm, the Java Gala reception will take place outside the Frost with refreshments and visual art exhibited by our talented students. There will be our traditional raffle baskets from each AVPA School, filled with valuable items. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase in advance with your admission ticket, or throughout the afternoon.
At 3:30pm, we’ll move into the Robert Frost Auditorium for the 2nd Act - a showcase and celebration of AVPA, ending with a special medley of musical hits.
RESERVED SEAT TICKETS: $30 for adults, $10 for students.
Bundle your admission ticket with our Raffle tickets! We have 6 amazing baskets - one from each AVPA School and one overall AVPA basket. Get 1 admission ticket and 6 raffle tickets for $130 (save $20) or get 1 admission ticket and 12 raffle tickets for $210 (save $40). These deals are only available online in advance.
